SEPTEMBER 2017

This month  (October/November) we have selected Tara Winkler’s Cambodian Children’s Trust as our targeted donation recipient. Tara and her team are working hard in Cambodia and now other places, to close down disreputable orphanages and  wherever possible re-unite children with their families  by working to empower vulnerable children to escape the cycle of poverty through family preservation, education, and de-institutionalisation. See   https://www.cambodianchildrenstrust.org/ for full details of her important work in this area.

Again please remember that that 100% of all donations to DA$AW go to charity. No salaries, No paid marketing, no fun runs or anything to do other than arrange a direct debit through your bank – Monthly or quarterly preferred. A minimum of just $1.00 pw or $4.33 pcm.  And do remember that One-off donations  are also welcome where the amount donated will be extended to represent the number of weeks your donation equates too. AUGUST 2017

This month we have selected another Melbourne based charity – the  Moira Kelly - Creating Hope Foundation (https://www.creatinghopefoundation.org.au/).

Moira is renowned for her work in bringing children with serious health problems to Australia whom local doctors were unable to treat. Her Foundation continues this work by providing support for children and families from overseas and from our own community here in Australia, who have not been able to receive help elsewhere. Moira takes on causes that everybody says no to and she says of her work, “There’s no saying no to hope.”

Moira Kelly AO’s work is funded almost entirely by charitable donations. She has been able to give hope to countless children and families who were unable to receive help elsewhere, because of the generosity of others.

In addition, this month, as a result of a generous donation made by the students of the John Curtin College (WA), we have been able to make an additional three grants of $300 each to the following organisations:

The latter two having been past recipients of our donations. Thank you again to the John Curtin College and their generous students.

Still less than the cost of a cup of coffee/latte!

Do feel free to contribute more if you can and do remember that One-off donations  are also welcome where the amount donated will be extended to represent the number of weeks your donation equates too.

Hello again,

This  month we have selected a Melbourne based charity – The Les Twentyman Foundation (Photo above)  which aims to assist our youth and the homeless and a host of others doing it tough in our society. Using a variety of services and programs providing counselling, education, recreation and support resources for “at-risk” youth, the Les Twentyman Foundation aims to reconnect kids with their families and communities enabling them to reach their full potential and make a positive contribution to society. See their website at https://www.ltfoundation.com.au/  for full details.

Welcome to Mid – Winter. Just a  little chilly in the Southern part of our continent now!

This month our pooled donations will be re-directed to The Aminata Maternal Foundation which came about following the birth of Aminata Conteh-Biger’s two beautiful children. Experiencing high quality health care in Australia during her own pregnancy, Aminata (Photo above - Courtesy of her Foundation) felt compelled to seek improvements for women in her country of birth, In Sierra Leone, where Aminata witnessed women bleeding to death during childbirth in front of a doctor, simply because they didn’t have enough money to pay.
